It seems many want to retire in Arizona, why not Florida or elsewhere?
We have been retired in Arizona for five years…here are five solid reasons why you should consider it as well.
1) Lots of sunshine is good for you…They do not call the Phoenix area the Valley of the Sun for nothing. The official website of Phoenix says we have 334 days of sunshine per year…that is 91.5% of the time you will be in sunlight. Cloudy days mean cloudy dispositions. This really makes a difference in your outlook…when we travel anywhere we notice not seeing the sun right away.
2) Varied topography…Retiring in Arizona does not mean looking at cactus all day. Arizona has forests over 25% of the state. If you want a break from the desert living in Phoenix you are only an hour and a half tops to the Mogollon Rim, east of Phoenix. 7,000 feet elevation, in the pine forests. Oh and there is the Grand Canyon.
3) When you retire in Arizona, you will have many recreational opportunities. Because the sun is shining, you can enjoy outdoor sports anytime of the year. Hiking, hunting and fishing are among the more popular diversions.
4) You do not worry about hurricanes in Arizona. Do not get me wrong…I really like Florida, lived there for 2 years. Live in Florida, the span of June 1 to November 15 you will be paying attention to the weather when tropical depressions form off the coast of Africa. These sometimes turn into hurricanes and they can hit anywhere in Florida, from the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico. No fun.
5) Retire in Arizona and say goodbye to bugs and humidity. You do not know what a pleasure it is to not worry about bugs or the shirt sticking to your back in the summer. The hot temperatures of summer in Arizona are much more comfortable than the mugginess and critters in the Gulf Coast area.
